Earth's magnetic field is like a shield it protects us.It protects us frome the sun because the sun spits out charged subatomic particles.These particles stream towards us the earth if we wouldn't have the magnetic field the particles would enter our atmosphere and it would damage our atmosphere it could also damage all living things and our electronical devices.We have the magnetic field to prevent all that it kinda of deflects the particles to the North and South pole of the earth where the lines of the magnetic enters and exits the earth.When particles hit the atmosphere it creates the Northen and Southern lights.
